The Neelan Tiruchelvam Memorial Lecture

1999-2019 : Twenty Years of Conversation

‘The Neelan Tiruchelvam Memorial Lecture – 1999-2019: Twenty Years of Conversation’ looks back on the history of the Neelan Tiruchelvam Memorial Lecture Series.  An annual public forum, the Neelan Tiruchelvam Memorial Lecture convenes leading thinkers to examine questions of democracy, justice, and pluralism. This volume commemorates two decades of lectures, capturing a wide range of perspectives from scholars, activists, and practitioners. In these two decades, across contexts and disciplines, the speakers engaged with conflict, identity, governance, and social transformation in Sri Lanka and beyond. Some challenged, others provoked, many reflected. Together, they formed a body of work grounded in critical inquiry and open dialogue, underscoring the enduring value of ideas in shaping just and inclusive societies, the very values that Neelan espoused.

Macroeconomic Policy and Socioeconomic Rights in Sri Lanka

This publication is a compilation of five research studies, conducted as part of NTT’s Macroeconomic Policy and Socioeconomic Rights Fellowship. They examine the human rights impacts of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis and recent macro economic policy changes. The reports explore regional inequalities in growth, governance and accountability gaps, labour rights in export industries, the gendered effects of tax reforms, and the impact of trade liberalisation on informal livelihoods, and offer critical insights into how economic decisions shape the lives of ordinary people.

South Asia Convening on Decriminalising Poverty and Status

This rapporteur report documents the first-ever South Asia Convening on Decriminalising Poverty and Status held in Colombo in January 2025. It brought together voices from across the region to reflect on how law shapes everyday harm. The conversations centred on those who live at the sharp edge of criminalisation. The report outlines patterns of exclusion and the quiet violence of systems, while illustrating practice and experience across the Global South.
